Going for an early morning winter walk in Senjogahara…

All in all this was a rather anti-climactic hike given that we almost died in a spectacular fashion when our little car lost traction twice going uphill on the ice and snow-covered winding cliff-side mountain roads in the dark at 4AM.

(Picture car tumbling down a cliff in the dark and exploding1 in the middle of unpopulated mountains and our corpse being quickly covered with freshly fallen snow, frozen until its gruesome discovery by some erstwhile spring cherry-blossom seeking day hikers from Tokyo2).

So… I don’t think we’ll be doing that again without a proper 4WD vehicle.

  1. Okay maybe we’ve watched one too many Hollywood movies. 

  2. Assuming both we and our deliciously prepared bento lunch are not scavenged by woodland predators first.
